What’s an empath?
If you find yourself drawn to classes or books about self-help or metaphysics, you’re on the empath* spectrum.
Learning about the qualities of an empath (highly sensitive person) helps you to understand that you share with other empaths the capacity to sense energy. For example, as you enter a room you may feel or “know” that an argument or sex just happened.
That was my story. It got uncomfortable, especially when I was visiting a friend whose husband came home, having just had sex–that obviously didn’t include my friend. No, it didn’t end well for them.
When you develop your intuition you understand how being an empath serves as a foundation to become an empowered intuitive. Both sensitivity and intuition are stepping stones to becoming an actualized consciously aware and joyful person.
The label, empath, is a useful way to define sensitivity. Being sensitive is an asset. Moving beyond this label helps you to get to know yourself at a quiet inner level.
Here are some practical tools to help you to prepare your exploration into energy and intuition:
- Practice being present for a minute or 20 minutes, as often as you want, daily. Take a walk, go barefoot outside, meditate, watch your breath, pray, sit focusing on one of your organs or chakras…
- Watch your thoughts and feelings with curiosity–without judging yourself or others
- Ask yourself how much of what you’re thinking or feeling is really yours. If you’re super unhappy, the chances are the feelings aren’t yours. When you change your thoughts and feelings, everyone involved gets a healing.
- If you’re feeling overwhelmed in life, practice the Hawaiian Hoʻoponopono* or in your mind’s eye, breathe into your body electric blue light to bring you soothing self-forgiveness
*Hoʻoponopono; Repeat the following 4 phrases until you feel complete: I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.
Definition of an Empath
*Empaths “are highly sensitive, finely tuned instruments when it comes to emotions. They feel everything, sometimes to an extreme, and are less apt to intellectualize feelings. Intuition is the filter through which they experience the world. Empaths are naturally giving, spiritually attuned, and good listeners.” Dr. Judith Orloff.
